What does it mean to object?

The last step of the Murmur Method is the Decide round, where participants either consent or object to a proposal. Participants don’t evaluate a proposal on whether it’s perfect — only whether it’s safe-to-try.

As a participant, objecting means that you believe the proposal is too risky as written and is likely to cause harm for the team that will be difficult to recover from.

If you choose to object, remember that your objection should be reasoned. Reasoned objections give a proposal its best chance to move forward, as they contain two key elements:

💭 Something to think about...

As you approach the Decide round, keep in mind that it only takes one objection to stop a proposal from progressing — it’s an important decision! If a proposal is objected to three times, it reverts back to the proposer’s drafts, where it can be edited and reproposed, or saved for another time.
