The goal of the Understand round is simple: Ask and answer questions to gain clarity on the proposal. This is not the time for suggestions (that comes in the next round!), so make sure that all interactions in this round are aimed strictly at getting a better understanding of the nuts and bolts of the proposal.

🙋 As a participant, it’s your job to ask questions. Here’s what that looks like:

• Review the proposal thoroughly, reading to understand rather than evaluate.
• If you’re unclear or confused about anything, highlight the relevant text, then click the question mark icon.
• Type your wonderful question, then click “Add question”.
• Repeat this process for each question you ask.
• When you’re finished asking questions, click “I’m Done”.

Keep in mind that good questions are focused on what’s truly confusing to you and is hindering your ability to understand what’s being proposed.

You’ll also have the opportunity to respond to other participants’ questions with emoji reactions and comments.

💁 As a proposer, it’s your job to review and answer participant questions. Here’s how that works:

• Click on each question icon to expand or collapse the question pop-up.
• Type your response into the text box below the question, then click “Save”.
• For each question, you can add an optional emoji reaction. Click on the icon below the suggestion, then select from the options that appear.
• When you’re finished responding to questions, click “I’m Done”.

Note that the proposer won't be able to see or respond to participants' questions until the round has ended.

Also, remember to answer every question fully and briefly! Once the proposer is done answering participant questions, the proposal advances to the Improve round.
